Naming in Middle East Geo-Politics or What's in a Name?
Throughout the history of the Middle East (or is it the Near East?), the naming of places and people has been a political/geo-political act. How do these names influence our political perceptions? How and from where are these names derived? We will focus on the meaning of Palestine (it's not what you think or were taught), including a few ironies along the way. For instance, some refuse to use the terms "West Bank" and "Palestine" and prefer "Judea and Samaria" -- two Roman names.
