Angela Botelho

I am the Jewish daughter of German Jewish refugees who converted to Roman Catholicism in the 1930s. Following a career as an attorney in the California State Attorney General's Office, I began a course of studies at the Richard S. Dinner Center for Jewish Studies at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. My current presentation is an outgrowth of my 2013 Master's Thesis, entitled 'Modern Marranism: German Jews and the Persistence of Jewish Identity in Conversion,' and is primarily directed at a series of interviews I recently conducted of twenty-five family members and their relationship to their Jewish heritage. I am currently working on turning these materials into a book.
