Brian Scott Wilson, DMA was born in Lynn, MA on Boston’s north shore. He has composed/arranged more than 130 works including four operas, three symphonies, 20 choral/vocal pieces, 34 jazzcombos and numerous chamber and klezmer compositions. His work for solo trombone and percussion, THE AVANTI FEELS GLUED TO THE ROAD EVEN WHEN CRUISING AT 100 MPH, won the 1988 International Trombone Association Composition Competition.

The son of an accountant, Wilson began his musical life with trombone lessons in fourth grade and piano in seventh. In high school, he joined a brass choir at St. Joseph’s Church in Lynn, where he received free lessons in music theory and counterpoint from the  music director, Fr. David Gallagher. Following high school, Wilson studied Jazz piano with Jaki Byard at Hartt College of Music, going onto receive degrees from New England Conservatory, The University of Chicago and The University of Arizona. Wilson’s composition teachers include Dan Asia, Ralph Shapey, Shulamit Ran, Malcolm Peyton and Ed Diamente. Wilson is currently Professor of Music Theory, Director of Jewish Studies and Hillel Faculty Advisor at Sonoma State University.
